Pimples are a real trouble. They turn up the day before your first date or your big job interview. As if a zit isn’t enough of a problem, what you get is a breakout. Being rational (and emotional), you would then ask the inevitable question: Why? Why in the world is this happening? These could be the reasons:
You’re stressed out
Dealing with breakouts is stressful and that stress may even worsen your acne problem. The cells that release sebum have receptors for stress hormones. The more stressed you are, the more active these sebum-producing cells are.
The obvious solution here is to manage your stress. Try yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques. Every once in a while, add essential oils to your bath. Make sure to sleep for at least eight hours every night, so you’re fully rested. Of course, don’t forget to pamper yourself with natural professional skin care regularly.
Your hormones are running wild
Hormonal imbalance is a common culprit behind breakouts. What usually happens among women is the body produces excessive androgens (male sex hormones), causing excess sebum or oil in the skin.
What you can do is use oral contraceptives. These can regulate the hormones, increasing the female hormones in the body to balance out the overproduction of male hormones. Of course, this still depends on your health, as some women would get acne breakouts even after taking the pill.
In such instances, doctors would recommend prepping the skin a week before your period starts with the use of creams and washes that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
You’re eating wrong
Yes, diet plays a role in your breakouts. If you love eating food rich in sugar and saturated fats, you’re more likely to wake up to acne bursting wild in your face. This is because these food items shoot up the insulin levels in the body, which again causes overproduction of oils. Too much oil clog follicles, ruining your skin complexion.
Such a diet could also wreak havoc on your hormones. Again, you’re back to dealing with increased male hormones in the body. As much as you can, try to control your cravings for sugary, high-fat food.
Pimples are the worst. Save your skin from the zits by avoiding these culprits behind breakouts.
